Position: Science Laboratory Technician
Duty Station: Arusha

The School of St Jude is a 100% charity-funded education institution that provides free, high-quality primary and secondary scholarships to 1,800 of the poorest and brightest students in the Tanzanian region of Arusha. We are looking to appoint a Competent Laboratory Technician for Physics and Chemistry (Ordinary and Advanced Level).

Key Responsibilities
 Develop Lab working Schedule (in collaboration with the HoD and other members of the Science department.)
 Sets up and operates laboratory equipment in preparation for specimen examinations.
 Opens, separates, numbers and arranges specimens for laboratory examination and trace results.
 Maintains simple laboratory records and inventory for supplies.
 Maintains laboratory equipment and supplies by cleaning and maintaining quality assurance records.
 Maintains a clean and sanitary work area in accordance with standard laboratory practice and procedures.
 Prepare and maintain Preparations and classrooms which inspires the students to learn
 Devise and develop solutions to new Laboratories challenges
 Identify, develop, select and use a range of different teaching and learning resources and equipment’s to support teachers in teaching and assessments.
 Be responsible on special tasks on examinations as per the NECTA standards.
 Be fully aware of the students’ and Science teachers’ needs and support them professionally.
 Establish and communicate clear objectives for all learning resources within the subjects’ area. 


Other Duties:
 Participate in House Checks as requested by Community Relations team.
 Participate and support fellow staff in school mission related activities such as all School Celebration Days throughout the year.
 Participate in student selection process, in particular working after hours on rest days and public holidays up to 20 Saturdays per annum.
 Perform any other duties as assigned by Head of Department, Headmaster, Manager and Founder.

Qualifications, Skills, Attributes and required experience
 Diploma in Laboratory Science, Laboratory Technician or Management, or any other relevant studies.
 Must have 2-3 years’ experience, well matured and competent in Physics and chemistry Practical’s for Ordinary and Advanced Levels.
 Proficient in verbal and written English.  Basic computer skills (MS Windows, Word, Excel, company systems)
 Knowledge of a variety of standard laboratory procedures and techniques.
 Knowledge in laboratory equipment’s and terminology.
 Clear understanding of laboratory hazards and safety practices.
 Ability to receive and complete complex written and oral instructions on technical matters.
 Ability to supervise the activities of subordinate laboratory staff and students.
 Ability to operate laboratory equipment; teach and to write reports.
 Have excellent integrity and demonstrate good moral character and initiative.
