INTERNAL JOB POSTING The Aga Khan Health Service, Tanzania (AKHST) an institution of The Aga Khan Development Network, is completing a major phase II expansion of the Aga Khan Hospital, Dar es Salaam in 2018.
This expansion aims at improving the Hospital’s quality of facilities and infrastructure to become an ultramodern 170 bed facility in order to increase its capacity as a provider of high-quality medical care leading to tertiary care, referral and teaching hospital.
The Phase II development is focusing on expanding key clinical services including a comprehensive cardiology programme, oncology services, and neurosciences, as well as the expansion of orthopedics and trauma, diagnostic imaging, critical care, and women and child health programmes.

The Hospital is ISO and JCI Accredited (achieved a level of quality and patient service that is equal to the best hospitals in the world) and the teaching site for The Aga Khan University, which offers
postgraduate medical education programs leading to Master’s of Medicine in Family Medicine, Internal Medicine and Surgery.
It is also an accredited internship site. As part of the integrated health systems approach, AKHST plans to establish 35 outreach health facilities that are located across Tanzania. Currently, 20 such clinics have been established across the country and linked the main hospital in Dar es Salaam.
We are seeking for enthusiastic and qualified MEDICAL OFFICERS for the following sections:
ACCIDENT AND EMERGENCY (2 POSITIONS)
OBSTETRICS AND GYNECOLOGY (2 POSITIONS)
PAEDIATRICS (1 POSITION)
POSITION SUMMARY:
The Medical Officer will be responsible for evaluation and management of patients according to the National and AKHST treatment guidelines in order to deliver efficient and quality care as per the mission and vision of AKHST Dar es salaam. These responsibilities will be carried out under direct or indirect supervision of the consultant assigned by the department head.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND ROLES:
Assessment of patients seeking care in accordance with the hospital protocol and policies.
Plan investigation and care of patient following the laid down AKHST and National guidelines and protocols.
Management of patients as per National and AKHST guidelines, and where indicated in consultation with the relevant specialty.
Liaise with nursing staff regularly to check on patient progress, or more frequently if their condition necessitates
Accurate and complete documentation of care provided in the patient notes and effective hand over rounds during
shift change to enhance continuity of care.
Compliance with the infection control policies.
Function as an effective member of the team of care providers including peers and nursing and support staff.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENT:
Minimum Doctor of Medicine Degree from recognized institution.
1 year internship experience.
Staff would be required to get certified for advanced resuscitation courses that includes but not limited to following:
o BLS (Basic Life Support) training certificate.
o ACLS (Advance Cardiac Life Support) training certificate
SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE & EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENT
Strong written and verbal communication skills in both English and Kiswahili.
Excellent inter-personal communication skills, and ability to elicit and foster positive relationships.
Highly organized and have excellent prioritization skills.
Ability to work with diverse groups.
Motivated and with a commitment to excellence.
Results oriented and focused on activities necessary to achieve departmental and organizational goals.
Patient-centered: Demonstrate empathy and caring attitude towards patients aspiring to achieve complete confidence and satisfaction from the patients.
